Preparation
- Shake the container of Phenyl Alanine Agar well.
- Suspend 23 g of the powder in 1 L of purified water. Mix well.
- Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
- Dispense in tubes for slant cultures.
- After appropriate incubation of bacteria, ferric chloride reagent is added on the agar. Formation of a green color in 1 – 5 min indicates the production of phenylpyruvic acid.
STORAGE
The medium powder should be kept tightly closed and stored at temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius, and the medium should be stored at a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius. The best time to use is before the expiration date printed on the product label.
