Sodium azide

Application: Sodium azide is used in organic synthesis for the introduction of an azide group to prepare a desired compound. It acts as a precursor to prepare inorganic azides like lead azide and silver azide. In biochemistry, it is useful as a probe reagent and a preservative. It also acts as a nitridizing agent and cytochrome oxidase inhibitor. Further, it is used as a propellant in airbags.
