D-(-)-Arabinose

General description: Arabinose is an aldopentose – a monosaccharide containing five carbon atom and including an aldehyde (CHO) functional group. D-(−)-Arabinose is a D-ribose analogue present in sugar polymers such as the arabinogalatans of mycobacterial cell walls and plant tissues.

Application: D-(-)-Arabinose is a substrate used to identify, differentiate and characterize arabinose isomerase(s) that have commercial value in the production of tagatose. This monosaccharide is often used in cell culture media, serving as a bacterial carbon source, and can be used to distinguish between bacteria based on their fermentation abilities.
