Application: For isolating Salmonella and some Shigella.

Preparation

  • Shake the container well to homogenize the powder. Suspend 60 grams in 1 liter distilled or deionized water.
  • Heat to boiling for no more than 2-3 minutes to dissolve completely. Avoid overheating.
  • DO NOT AUTOCLAVE.
  • Cool to 45-50°C in a water bath. Dispense into sterile Petri dishes. Allow the surface of the medium to air dry for two hours by leaving the lids ajar.

STORAGE

Store dehydrated medium below 30 °C and prepared medium at 2-8 °C. The best time to use is before the expiration date printed on the product label.

  • Prepared Appearance: Red-orange, slightly opalescent.
  • Cultural characteristics observed after an incubation at 35-37°C for 24 hours.
