Lactose Broth

Application: For detection of the presence of coliform organisms, as a pre enrichment broth for salmonella and in the study of lactose fermentation of bacteria in general.

Preparation

  • Shake the container well to homogenize the powder. Suspend 13 g of the powder in one liter of distilled water.
  • Warm gently until solution is complete.
  • Dispense in test tubes containing inverted Durham tubes, in 10 mL amounts for testing samples of 1 mL or less.
  • Autoclave at 121°C for 15 minutes.
  • Cool as quickly as possible.

 

STORAGE:

Store dehydrated medium below 30 °C and prepared medium at 2-8 °C. The best time to use is before the expiration date printed on the product label.
