Application: To identify and enumeration Enterococci in water, fluids, and food.

Preparation

Shake the Container of culture media well. Dissolve 41.5 grams of the powder in 1 liter of distilled water.
Boil it gently and shake it until completely dissolved.
Do not overheat the medium. Do not autoclave the medium.
Immediately cool the medium and pour it into the plate.
Never remelt the solidified agar medium.

STORAGE

The medium powder should be kept tightly closed and stored at temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius, and the medium should be stored at a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius. The best time to use is before the expiration date printed on the product label.

Test

Collect water samples according to the relevant instructions. If using the membrane filter method, follow the procedure described in the standard method. Otherwise, inoculate the sample onto the culture plate using the pour plate method.
Incubate the inoculated plates at 35-37°C for 24-48 hours.

Results and Interpretation

Colonies that grow bright or dark red after incubation are considered Enterococci.
