Dichloran Glycerol (DG18) Agar Base

Application: The selective medium is used for isolation and enumeration of xerophilic molds in dry and semi-dry foods with low water activity, as well as for counting molds and yeasts in food products.

Preparation
  • Shake the container well before use. Dissolve 31.6 grams of the medium in one liter of distilled water.
  • Boil the solution to completely dissolve the powder.
  • Add 175 milliliters of glycerol (i880083) and mix well.
  • Autoclave at 121 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes.
  • After autoclaving, cool the medium to 50 degrees Celsius and pour it into the petri dishes.

STORAGE:

The medium powder should be kept tightly closed and stored at temperatures below 30 degrees Celsius, and the medium should be stored at a temperature of 2-8 degrees Celsius. The best time to use is before the expiration date printed on the product label.

  • Inoculate 0.1 to 0.5 milliliters of the sample onto the culture plate and spread it evenly over the surface according to the relevant protocol.

Results and Interpretation

  • Check the growth on the plate after 4, 5, and 6 days of incubation at 25 degrees Celsius.
  • Calculate the number of colonies per 1 gram of food.
